Pure Magnolia does its very best to find fabrics that are sustainable and have as little impact on the Environment as possible. Of course some fabrics are better than others, we are constantly working to find new and innovative fabrics, and well as vintage and one of a kind fabrics that will make our dresses beautiful. We are constantly looking for vintage fabrics and laces. If you have a wedding dress that you would like to donate for recycling, please contact us for a time to drop it off, or feel free to mail it to us (don’t worry about packing it nicely, just put it in a small box). Silk Charmeuse
Silk Charmeuse is a light weight satin finished silk which has a beautiful drape and is perfect for destination style dresses. It is strong and very breathable for those hot summer days. Reclaimed Silk Charmeuse is made from scraps of silk charmeuse that is taken from the cutting room floor of high end lingerie manufacturers who are unable to use the pieces in their production garments. These pieces are then attached together to create luxurious lining and trimmings.
Silk Chiffon
Silk Chiffon is a light weight layering fabric which is sheer and gives the dress an elegant and floating appearance. Silk Chiffon is often layered with Silk Charmeuse which gives the dress a slight sheen. Reclaimed Silk Chiffon is made from scraps of silk chiffon that is taken from the cutting room floor of high end lingerie manufacturers who are unable to use the pieces in their production garments. These pieces are then attached together or cut into smaller pieces to create texture or volume.
Light weight and semi sheer, this beautiful fabric has a wonderful drape and lustre. It can have a lot of body, but is so light weight it feels like you are not wearing more than a light summer dress. It is semi transparent, but is perfect over another light weight cotton.
I love working with this fabric! I am always impressed at how beautiful it is and how light the dresses end up! This 100% silk fabric is light weight and sturdy, don’t let the word twill fool you, this is not something heavy. It makes the most beautiful goddess gowns and bubble skirts.
Organic Cotton Sateen
Cotton Sateen is a medium weight fabric with a subtle sheen. It is comparable to a medium weight satin. This fabric is perfect for silk screening and painting to add interest to the garment. This is often used as a lining for our corsets.
Organic cotton SOFT Sateen
This super soft fabric is made from the same ethical organic cotton as our regular sateen. What makes it soft is the slight change in the weave. This fabric has more of a flow to it, and its beautiful natural golden sheen makes it idea for casual wedding dresses.
All of our dresses start out as muslin’s, and that muslin ends up as the lining to your dress! Of course we went out to find the softest most comfortable cotton we could. What would be better than wearing something comfortable and breathable on your wedding day! Cotton doesn’t get hot like Polyester does, it lets your skin breath.
This environmentall;y sensitive fabric is a perfect replacement for traditional bridal satin. It is made up of 40% Silk which makes up the top of the fabric, and 60% Hemp which make the back of the fabric, and gives it the sturdyness of a satin. It has a little bit of texture to it, with slub lines running vertically that add to the luster of this Ivory fabric.
Hemp Silk
This is a plain weave fabric without any sheen. It is a heavy stiff fabric which is perfect for fitted and structured gowns. Or simple silhiouettes that need a little bit of body without adding a crinoline. It has the same texture as its Satin counterpart, but without the shine.
Dupioni Silk Organza
This sheer fabric is made of true raw silk, which is reeled silk which still has all its gum. This makes a sturdy though almost completely transparent fabric. It has a stiff and crisp due to this silk gum. While there are many Silk Organza’s available out there, this one is special because it is made from breeder cacoons which means the silk worm has been able to live and excape as a moth.
Limited Edition/Vintage Fabrics
This is a lovely lace that I found the last time I was visiting New York. It has a lot of body, and the flowers are just beautiful. It is reimbroidered and is a beautiful Ivory colour that matches with out Hemp Silk and Hemp Silk Satin.
We collect a lot of vintage wedding dresses, usually it is just for their lace, but when we come across a dress that has some great Satin we love to keep that around too. The Vintage Satins range in colour from stark white, to creamy yellow. They are great to use with vintage lace or as a lining to a sheer dress.
This beautiful brocade was a hard earned find at a fabric sale. We were hunting through piles of fabrics before we came across this gem. The fabric itself is a creamy white colour, and the decals are a light golden yellow. The back side can also be used which is the same colours but reversed. This would be perfect for a wedding dress with a little colour, or a group of pretty yellow bridesmaids.
